PS2 Underrated Gem: Kinetica

This is a series of gameplay vids I'm doing highlighting overlooked games for the PS2.
Kinetica was a very early PS2 futuristic racer. In fact, it was on the very first Jampack I ever played for the system, and I'd wanted it ever since. It took me eight years to finally get it, but, now that I have it, I'm absolutely hooked.

You've seen it all before in other games, but not all before in one game. Think Wipeout meets Extreme G, meets Rollcage, meets SSX, and you'll nearly be there. This game is an absolute blast to play.

The tracks have a good variety to them with multiple shortcuts and branching paths. They range from futuristic cityscapes to tracks that are more organic in nature. The game moves at a lightning quick speed, there's new riders and tracks to be unlocked, and the controls work great (once you get used to them). Graphically (though I'm not a graphics whore and don't care about graphics), you'll have a hard time tell that this is an eight year old PS2 game. It looks great, and moves smoother (with only a few small hints of slowdown here and there, but not enough to complain about).

The game has some issues. It has a very steep learning curve. It's a game that takes some getting used to in the controls, and gameplay department. There's a lot of stuff that goes into racing in this game that have to be mastered in order to be successful. The season mode also has a set limit to the times you can restart a race, so if you don't do well, you'll end up having to restart the entire season over again.

Also, the computer opponents aren't too forgiving. One small mistake can take you from first to last place in a flash if you're not careful. That may be a put-off for some players, but for others, it's good to have some A.I. that gives you a run for your money.

The trick system could also have been more in-depth as well.

Overall, I'd say that this is a great game, and fans of Wipeout or any other futuristic racing games would do well to look into this game.

Kinetica is only available on the PS2.

Note: I just got this game not to long ago, so please excuse my noobyness.
