Three Myths About Video Game Testing Jobs

by Aaron Foreman

If you are into video games, you may have heard that there is a way to get paid for playing video games.

While there are a lot of opportunities in the game industry, the majority of people that get paid for playing games are people who work as video game testers.

Video game testers work by testing new games for bugs and report their findings to the video games companies so that the errors can be fixed before the new games are released.

These people typically work from home and work as freelancers by taking various opportunities as they become available.

However as with any other work at home opportunity, there are tons of myths all over the internet about exactly what these opportunities involve and how to obtain them.

Here are three major myths about video game testing jobs.

1. You don't need to have any experience.

This is for the most part untrue.

Yes, you will need to have some experience working with various gaming consoles. You will also need to be very knowledgeable about computers as well.

However the actual level of experience that is required will vary based on the opportunity that you are pursuing.

2. You don't have to work hard at all.

It can be said that if you are passionate about what you do, your work will not seem like work at all.

However some parts of your work as a video game tester can be very tedious.

First you may spend hours replaying certain parts of a game in order to recreate a bug.

You will also for the most part be required to write detailed reports about your findings.

So after spending several hours on the same task you may find that you might become a bit disenchanted with your work if you are not serious about the opportunity.

So this is yet another thing that you must keep in mind if you want to pursue this job as a living.

3. You have to spend a lot of money to get started.

If you are considering an opportunity and you are told that you need to pay hundreds of dollars upfront in order to get started, run far away because this is a scam!

Video game testing jobs are supposed to pay you not the other way around.

However many legitimate sites will charge you a small fee just to provide you with the information to help you get started and the forms you need to apply for the jobs.
