In association with ITV Meridian, the Southampton Boat Showis aiming to break world records during the UK's biggestsailing event.
120,000 are expected to flock to the Boat Show this year.At Mayflower Park, the PSP Southampton Boat Show is afantastic experience for everyone with a passion for boats. Whether you want to see what's new, discover a hobby orsee the very best, and most up to date marine design andtechnology.
The PSP Southampton Boat show hosts Europe's largestpurpose-built show marina, displaying an array of sailingcraft. Climb aboard science ship Callista or take a lookaround the Jubilee Sailing Trust's Lord Nelson. Also,children can go boating for free with the RYA's OnBoardprogramme. You can even try a boat for free, or take in theMCA and RNLI's Search & Rescue demonstrations. And don'tmiss the Record Breaker Stage Show to help the PSPSouthampton Boat Show break into the Guinness Book ofRecords.
This year, the aim is to break records with the help ofshow visitors. On the Record Breaker Stage Show in SolentPark, record breakers will bid to sail around the world in20 minutes!
Take part in the daily Semaphore record breaking attempt.Used by NATO's land and sea forces, Semaphore was developed200 years ago - way before mobile phones and the Internet!In its time, Semaphore was a revolutionary communicationsystem - as popular as texting! Semaphore is a way ofspelling out words by changing the position of a pair ofhand-held flags indicating a letter of the alphabet. On theRecord Breaker Stage Show you will be given your own flagsto use so you can help to set a new Semaphore sendingrecord.
The Green Blue is an initiative of the British MarineFederation and Royal Yachting Association. It's anenvironment programme working with boat users, sailingclubs, training centres and marine businesses to raiseawareness of the impact of recreational boating on ourcoastal and inland waters.
At the Boat Show this year you can see sailing legends DeeCaffari and Mike Golding present prizes to the winners ofthe photography competition. The competition encouragessailors to capture moments that represent boating and theenvironment under three categories, The Good, The Bad andThe Funny.
Those in the boating businesses can learn about making costsavings whilst improving their environmental performance atthe Marine Toolkit workshops.
